3)Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the insertion of solid filiform needles into the skin at very specific points on the body to achieve a therapeutic effect. Acupuncture is used to encourage natural healing, improve overall mood and energy, and to reduce and relieve pain to the affected areas. This in turn improves the overall function of those areas in the body that are affected.
Acupuncture originated in China over 2500 years ago, has been practiced in France for over 200 years and has been used in Canada since the 19th century.
4)Orthotics
What Are Orthotics?
Orthotics are custom-made inserts that fit inside shoes.  Their purpose is to restore natural foot movement.  Orthotics allow  joints to be aligned correctly and promote efficient transmission of the forces of standing, walking, jogging, running and jumping.  As a result, they help to reduce foot, back and leg pain by improving function and efficiency.  Your individual foot structure is captured in foot impression.  The orthotics are then fabricated , using these measurements, by computerized equipment to suit each person’s individual needs.
Who needs orthotics?
Orthotics benefit people with foot pain or discomfort due to imbalance. Some imbalances include flat feet, excessive pronation, bow legs, knock knees, pigeon-toes, and high-arched feet.  However, many bio mechanical problems are less obvious, and are not detected until symptoms occur.  Orthotics are very beneficial for people who walk or stand excessively at work, who are active in sports, overweight, and people with special needs such as diabetics or the elderly, to name just a few. Specific conditions which may be helped by orthotics include heel pain, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, shin splints, calluses, corns, bunions, hammer toes, cramping, aching or tired legs, as well as low back pain.
Why Do We Need Customized Orthotics?
Custom-made orthotics are shaped to accommodate and re-align your feet and ankle bones to their neutral position, restoring natural foot function. At Joint Rehab, a physiotherapist or chiropodist will take the time to do a bio mechanical and gait analysis prior to casting   your orthotics. Each patient’s orthotics are  designed from our professional prescription specifications.  They are built to meet the individual biomechanical and lifestyle needs of each of our patients.
5)Oncology Rehab
a)Exercise
The Importance of Exercise Rehabilitation for Cancer Patients
Cancer is a disease that has touched almost all our lives either personally or through family members and friends. Cancer treatment, consisting of some combination of chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and/or immunotherapy may eradicate the tumour but often leaves us struggling to regain the quality of life we had prior to their cancer diagnosis. The evidence is compelling that EXERCISE improves psychological and physiological wellness, increases survivorship and reduces the side effects of cancer treatment.
b)Lymphedema
The lymphatic system is an important part of the body’s immune system.  The term lymphedema refers to swelling of a body part caused by abnormal accumulation of lymph fluid.  It usually affects the arms or legs but can also occur in the head, neck, genital and trunk regions.  Lymphedema occurs when the lymphatic system is deficient or damaged, altering the transport of the lymph fluid.
In North America, lymphedema is still not a widely known condition.  Many people are told that there is no treatment and that they must learn to live with it.  Although it is a chronic and progressive condition, lymphedema can usually be brought under control by good care and attention to certain basic guidelines.  Lymphedema is compatible with a normal and active lifestyle.
The physician, physiotherapist, massage therapist, and patient can work together as a team to achieve better success in managing lymphedema.
